The Japanese economy experienced unexpected growth in April 2019, in spite of a fall in exports.

Brexit uncertainty appears to be weighing on Japanese exporters. Exports fell by more than 10 percent compared to April 2018, the largest percentage fall across the EU economies.

The trade surplus between the two countries is falling, down by more than a quarter on the year.
